Sep. 8—Stevens Park

Highway 101 to Las Positas exit. Toward the mountains, crossing State Street. Continue up San Roque Road. Left on Calle Fresno. Right on Canyon Drive. Look for Stephens Park signs on right.

Sep. 10—Santa Barbara Shores / Ellwood / Devereux

Highway 101 to Winchester Canyon exit. Continue west to stop sign. Left over freeway onto Hollister Ave. Pass old gas station building on right. Park in county parking lot on right.

Sep. 15—Santa Barbara Shores / Ellwood / Devereux

Highway 101 to Winchester Canyon exit. Continue west to stop sign. Left over freeway onto Hollister Ave. Pass old gas station building on right. Park in county parking lot on right.

Sep. 17—Jesusita Trail

Mission St. around the mission, continuing on Mission Canyon Rd. Left on Foothill Rd. 1.2 miles. Right on San Roque Rd. 0.4 mile. Park near trailhead sign by the Lauro Reservoir water filtration plant.

Sep. 22—La Casa de Maria Trails

Highway 101 to Sheffield Dr. (left lane) exit. Toward mountains. Right and follow sharp curve around towards mountains. Right on East Valley Rd. Pass Ortega Ridge Rd., Freehaven Rd., and stone house on left. Watch for round mirror on left. Left on Ladera Lane. Next left at 801. Park in lot in front of building.

Sep. 24Rattlesnake Trail

Mission St. to the mission. Right on Mountain Dr. just before the bridge over Mission Creek. Just before Sheffield Reservoir continue left on Mountain Dr. Left on Las Canoas Rd. at the sign. Pass Schofield Park on your left. Park at the bridge and wait at the trailhead.

Sep. 29—Cachuma Lake Harvey’s Cove

($5 Parking fee—Carpool) Highway 154 over San Marcos Pass to Cachuma Lake Recreation Area. Pay entrance fee and go left toward the recreation vehicles and follow signs for Harvey’s Cove. Park in the lot by the trailhead. There is an outdoor restroom there. Meet in the lot.

Oct. 1—White Rock Day Use Area / Santa Ynez River

Highway 154 over San Marcos Pass. Right on Paradise Rd (Santa Ynez Recreation Area). Travel several miles, past the Fremont and Paradise Campgrounds. White Rock Day Use Area on the left. The sign is a little hard to see, so watch for it after passing Paradise Campground.

Oct. 6—Tunnel Rd. / Edison Rd.

Mission St. around the mission, continuing on Mission Canyon Rd. Right on Foothill Rd. Left on Mission Canyon Rd. .2 mi. at the next stop sign. At the sign for Tunnel Rd. bear left and drive 1.2 miles to the end of the road. Observe parking signs. Meet at the paved entrance to the trail.

Oct. 8—Upper Oso

Highway 154 over San Marcos Pass. Right on Paradise Road. Continue several miles. Cross the river. Left at sign for Upper Oso just beyond the restrooms at Lower Oso. Park in the trailhead lot on the right at Upper Oso.

Oct. 13—Sage Hill Aliso Loop Trail

Highway 154 over San Marcos Pass. Right on Paradise Rd. Continue several miles, passing Fremont, Paradise, and Los Prietos Campgrounds. Left at the Sage Hill/ Ranger Station sign. Pass the Ranger Station and follow the road as it U-turns and crosses through the river. Continue toward the mountains all the way to the end (cross the bridge). Park in the large parking lot and wait at the trailhead.

Oct. 15—Refugio to El Capitán Bike Path

Highway 101 N to exit for Refugio State Beach. Park under the freeway bridge. Wait at the cars.

Oct. 20—Parma Park

Mission St. to the mission. Right on Mountain Dr. just before the bridge over Mission Creek. Just before Sheffield Reservoir bear right on Mission Canyon Rd. Left on Stanwood Drive at the Fire Station. Watch for sign on your left for Parma Park on a curve.

Oct. 22—More Mesa Beach Cliffs

Highway 101 to Turnpike exit. Turn toward the ocean. Left on Hollister. Continue to Puente St. Turn right and continue past the bike path and up the hill to Mockingbird Lane on your left. Park on Puente and meet the class at the corner to walk up Mockingbird Lane together.

Oct. 27—Upper Oso

Highway 154 over San Marcos Pass. Right on Paradise Road. Continue several miles. Cross the river. Left at sign for Upper Oso just beyond the restrooms at Lower Oso. Park in the trailhead lot on the right at Upper Oso.

Oct. 29—Tequepis Trail

Highway 154 over San Marcos Pass. 17.5 miles. Left at signs for Camp Allegre, Cachuma Camp, or Camp Cielo. Rough road. Bear right, past a shale area on right. Continue to camp parking area.

Nov. 3— Tunnel Rd. from Camino Cielo

Mission St. to the mission. Right on Mountain Dr. Just before Sheffield Reservoir continue left on Mountain Dr. Follow the sign for Mt. Calvary Monastery onto Gibraltar Rd. Continue to the top. Left on Arroyo Burro Rd. Pass 5000 gal. Water tank on right. Park at next right curve with gate.

Nov. 5—East Camino Cielo / Pendola Sta.

Mission St. to the mission. Right on Mountain Dr. just before the bridge over Mission Creek. Just before Sheffield Reservoir continue left on Mountain Dr. At the second intersection, continue across onto Gibraltar Rd. Follow Gibraltar Rd. past the monastery, to the top where East Camino Cielo intersects—the sign says Pendola Station and Arroyo Burro. Left and park by the water tank that says 5000 gallons.

Nov. 10—El Capitán State Beach

($5 Parking Fee—Carpool) Highway 101 N to El Capitán State Beach. Pay at and park near the entrance kiosk.

Nov. 12—Romero Canyon

Highway 101 east to the Sheffield Dr. exit. Go 1.5 miles to E. Valley Rd. Turn left, then almost immediately to the right on Romero Canyon Rd. Continue 1.5 miles to Bella Vista. Turn right. Trailhead is about .3 miles. Red steel gate marks the trail’s beginning.

Nov. 17—West Camino Cielo

Highway 154 to the West Camino Cielo exit just before the San Marcos Pass summit. Left and continue up the hill past the mailboxes. Go several miles to the gun club. Park just beyond the entrance to the gun club by the 5000 gallon water tank.

Nov. 19—Fremont Trail

Highway 154 to the top of San Marcos Pass. Right on East Camino Cielo at the Cielo Store sign. Continue for 2 miles. Pass the Laurel Springs Rd. leading to Painted Cave and continue approximately 1 mile. Meet at the rusty locked forest service gate on the left.
